Gregory Came To Party

Wow, it’s been a LONG time! (Since JUNE!) My recently concluded storyboarding gig kept me very busy & unfortunately away from my Blender progress.

So much has changed! Blender 2.8 & Eevee for example! I was hungry to get back into it.

I began by creating a little something for my company (Upchuckle Entertainment) when I said to myself, I said: “Self, I’m not really sure how to play with hair & fur in Blender yet.”

So myself replied back: “You know something? You’re right. You should do a quick test to play with it. You’re also very handsome.”

…and that’s the story of how Gregory was born. A “quick” exercise that I began having far too much fun with and grew into something more. Before i knew it, I was learning how to make lasers, volume fog, weird teeth, disco balls & lasers in addition to fur.

I hope you like him! (Because Gregory likes you).

This is Gregory. Gregory’s a tad shy but he came here to dance. (Final Image)

Gregory’s Beginnings: Originally this was all I was going to do to understand how the hair particle systems work (and how to edit them). You can see I added a second particle system for some longer, more whiskery hairs which I later abandoned.

NOW he’s a character!: But then I accidentally added eyes to my fur experiment and just HAD to play with him further. He kinda had a Baby Chewbacca-thing going on here.

Then I accidentally made his mouth, which was just so weird & gross. (I giggled a lot). The awkwardness of his smile told me he was in an uncomfortable dance club type of situation…so I had to keep going…

…Which naturally meant he needed awkward legs for dancing and a spiffy bow-tie!

Almost there! Just some lighting/colour tweaks, some fog, lasers & a pompom after this point led to the final image of Gregory…and his story.
